Despite being mostly desert, Egypt is actually quite an easy country to travel around. Many
international and local travel companies specialise in long tours through the country, and cruises
down the Nile continue to grow in popularity, giving travellers the opportunity to both see the
pyramids and to go reef diving in Sharm el Sheikh in the same trip. Many offer cheap Egypt holidays
during the off season, which lasts from May to October.

In terms of getting a true feel for the history of a country, few places match Egypt, with its
thousands of pyramids and monuments. Even the Cairo, with its modern architecture and
sophisticated nightlife, is home to many of the world’s oldest still-in-use buildings, like the Mohamed
Ali Mosque in the famous Citadel that overlooks the Islamic Cairo quarter. Beyond Cairo you’ll find
the Valley of the Kings and its 65 plus tombs. But Egypt is more than just tombs and mummies –
there’s all kinds of adventure to be had too.

You’ll find some of the world’s best reefs and fishing spots among the various Red Sea resorts – with
over 250 reefs to enjoy, though they can get a bit busy during peak periods. If you prefer your action
a bit more rugged, you can participate in a week-long desert safari by camel, stopping at important
sites and enjoying starlit barbeques in the evening. Whatever your holiday desire, there’s something
in Egypt to match it – be it sun, scenery or history.
